MEMORIAL BENCH:  A garden bench made of green and air dried oak with a hand carved inscription.

The base is made from one solid piece of green oak with the front and back finished with a Japanese adze (chouna), and the ends with a gouge, to create scolloped textures. The wedge and dovetail based joinery is not hidden but instead was chosen as much for it's aesthetic contribution to the design as for it's structural appropriateness.

No pegs, pins, dowels, nails, screws, glue, or any other fixing used. Just wedged joinery.

The concept and design were influenced by Japanese and European traditions but were otherwise my own.

The timber was from Scottish Wood.
